The Praktica PL electronic is a mile stone SLR featuring the first electronically controlled shutter. The body was essentially the same as the Praktica PL nova I. The camera was produced from March 1968 to sometime in 1969, with only about 3400 units made. It can be regarded a feasibility study for the shutter only as other electronic features like built-in metering were missing, although a battery was present. SLRs with electronically controlled shutters became popular shortly after, mainly from Japanese producers (eg. Yashica TL Electro-X), while it took Pentacon to return to the concept until 1977 with the Praktica EE2.
