AI / AIS lenses
The introduction of fully open aperture metering was possible in 1977 with Aperture Indexing (AI). This was a mechanical coupling by an external prong (bunny ears) which coupled with the camera. Many lenses were converted (Ai'd) by applying this external prong.
AIS Introduced standardized aperture control, and the Focal Length Indexing Ridge to be used in the Nikon FA onwards for whutter priorityand Program modes
