Welcome to Camera-Wiki.org!

Thanks for creating an account here on Camera-Wiki.org! We appreciate your willingness to help us create the most comprehensive camera and photography encyclopedia on the web. Camera-Wiki.org is a big website, so we'd like to offer a few quick pointers to help get you started.

You also have a profile page that you can edit to tell us more about yourself if you'd like. It's purely optional but it's always nice to get to know another camera lover.

This website uses software called Mediawiki that's also used by WikiPedia. If you already know how to use and edit WikiPedia, you'll feel right at home here. If not, we have special page where you can learn to edit, called the Sandbox. It's a place where you try things out and experiment with no worries of breaking anything.

Hi! Thanks for creating an account here.

I see you added a picture to the Minolta Riva AF 35 page; however, there were a few problems with that. You just added the code for the image itself, without a link to the Flickr page, or an attribution. Without seeing the Flickr page, I can't tell if we're allowed to use the image, so for now I've 'commented it out' (I put <!-- (image code) --> round the URL to stop it displaying).

Flickr's terms of service require that Flickr pictures included on other web pages link to the Flickr page, and it also helps us check things like copyright, and any details given in the picture caption on Flickr. Camera-wiki always gives attribution (we say whose picture it is), and a statement of rights (a note saying why we think we're entitled to use the picture). These are most easily done with our Flickr-image template. The template code looks like this:

{{Flickr_image
|image_source=
|image=
|image_align=
|image_text=
|image_by=
|image_rights=
}}

and you can insert that code by clicking the 'picture' icon at the right of the tool-bar at the top of the editing window.

Then you complete 'image-source= ' with the URL of the Flickr photo page; complete 'image = ' with the URL of the picture itself (the farm5.staticflickr...etc); it's nice to complete 'image_text= ' with a caption, comlete 'image_by=' with the Flickr screen name of the photo owner, and 'image_rights=' should be one of our copyright categories. All this is explained in Help:Adding_images.

Sorry to undo your first edit, but we have to take copyright quite seriously!
